Mind matters… NSRCEL-incubated start-up Mindfully Sorted, with a network of over 50 qualified mental health experts, helps people with one-on-one counselling based on their demography, personal comfort, situation and affordability

Mindfully Sorted Pvt. Ltd. is a start-up with a vision to transform the way people look at mental health, to design psychology-based innovative interventions for preventive mental care and help qualified experts reach more people. The firm’s focus is on Indian adults between the productive age of 21 and 60 years.

The firm, which just completed one year in June this year, has a network of over 50 reputed and qualified mental health experts, and helps people find their match for one-on-one counselling based on their demography, personal comfort, situation and affordability. The firm completed more than 200 hours of counselling in the last six months, organically acquiring clients – with over 95% clients retained till date.

Mindfully Sorted also initiated an exclusive Women’s Retreat, to provide a safe space for women to express, heal and grow, aided by well-known expressive art experts. The first retreat was designed and conducted in Coorg in March 2020. There are plans to have more retreats in Coorg and Goa with music and dance as a medium to express and heal, post the pandemic.

In collaboration with well-known Indian psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr. Avinash Desousa, the firm launched the ‘Emotional First-Aid Program’ to help people deal with the COVID-19 crisis. Mindfully Sorted has trained more than 150 people so far and is in the process of collaborating with corporate enterprises to deliver similar programs for their leadership and employees. These programs are focused on empowering people to support emotionally distressed friends, family, co-workers and teams, and adopt self-care. They also raised funds in the process and donated to GiveIndia for COVID relief.

Mindfully Sorted also conducted their first vernacular program in Assamese.

They also have significant presence on social media, where they often conduct free sessions with experts. The discussions are based on topics from daily life like relationship tuning, motherhood, managing anxiety, body image, healthy eating, performance enhancement, etc., subtly building awareness through the mind experts on how mental health and self-awareness plays an important role in sorting one’s life and reaching the true potential.

Mindfully Sorted has also started work on technology-based interventions, which will help people build psycho-social awareness and create a ‘nudge’ to sort life by seeking professional help before it is too late.

The founder, Sarmistha Mazumder, has spent over 15 years as an HR professional working in organizations like Accenture, EXL Services and Aptiv. She started this venture inspired by her own journey of self-awareness using counselling and expressive art therapies. The mother of a two-and-a-half year old, she has done her MBA in HR from Symbiosis Center for Management & Human Resource Development (SCMHRD), Pune.

Sarmistha says IIMB’s NSRCEL has been a tremendous guiding force in her entrepreneurial journey. “The first time I went to NSRCEL to meet Naga-sir in an open mentoring session, under his famous tree, he said marketplaces do not work so easily, there has to be a value addition. This was when I was still planning to quit my full time job as an HR leader. From that time, because of NSRCEL, all my thoughts and plans were challenged, sometimes being broken into pieces. At the same time, I have been empowered with new ideas and skills to think about new and even better solutions. This learning and unlearning, along with associating with a group of inspiring women entrepreneurs, has been extremely valuable.”
