IIMB students recount industrial visit to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited

The session was held as part of theCEO’s Agenda Towards Climate Action’ course offered by Prof. Deepti Ganapathy

As part of the course ‘CEO’s Agenda Towards Climate Action,’ an industry visit was organized for the PGP, EPGP, and PGPEM cohorts at IIM Bangalore to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited (TKM) in the Bidadi industrial area on 2 January, 2025. The course, designed by Prof. Deepti Ganapathy, Chairperson, Centre for Management Communication (CenComm) at IIM Bangalore, is the first of its kind in India to focus on providing future leaders with strategic capabilities to forecast and address climate action challenges.

The students received a warm welcome at the TKM plant from Mr. Srinivasa Chamanahally, Division Head – Sustainability (ESG) Promotion. The visit featured an immersive ecozone walk and a guided tour of Genba, TKM’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Following the tour, a panel discussion was held in the open-air auditorium of the ecozone. The session, moderated by Prof. Deepti Ganapathy, featured panelists including, Mr. Sudeep S Dalvi, Senior Vice President & Director – Technical and Purchase, Chief Communication Officer; Mr. B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President & Director – Manufacturing; and Mr. Keshava G, Vice President.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our combined efforts and share valuable insights with a global school such as IIM Bangalore”, said Mr. Dalvi.

Students engaged in an enriching interaction with the senior leadership team of TKM.  The discussion spanned diverse topics such as sustainable product design, circular economy practices, sustainability initiatives, sectoral challenges, and the competencies required of future leaders in the automotive industry.

Speaking about the visit, Arpita Pali, final year PGP student, recalled, “Our visit to TKM was truly a transformative experience. It offered insight into market-leading sustainability and innovation. Exploring the Ecozone reinforced an inspiring image of Toyota’s commitment to biodiversity and ecological balance. The cutting-edge manufacturing zone that we witnessed showcased a holistic approach to operational efficiency and sustainable practices. The candid, insightful panel discussion with the leadership team further enriched our understanding of how an automotive industry can map environmental and social change. The visit for us has strengthened the critical role of sustainable practices in shaping a better future for businesses and society alike”.
