IIMB will host workshop on ‘Building Sustainable Agri-Food Supply Chains in India’ on December 16

Inaugural address by Krishna Byre Gowda; invited talks by scientists, agro & retail industry heads & policy makers
6 December, 2016, BengaluruIndian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will host a one-day workshop on ‘Building Sustainable Agri-Food Supply Chains in India’ on December 16, 2016. The workshop is a part of the Fifth Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference, jointly organized by the Airbus Group Endowed Chair for Sourcing and Supply Management at IIMB and the Supply Chain Management Centre at IIMB on December 15 & 16, 2016. The theme of the conference is ‘Technology in Supply Chain Management’.
The workshop on December 16 will facilitate developing a network and a knowledge base for sharing and exchanging expertise between India and the UK for creating sustainable agricultural supply chains in India.
The workshop brings together policy-makers, academics and scientists, agribusiness representatives from agro and retail industries, agricultural and horticultural growers, SCM practitioners and academics, and consumers to present and discuss three focus areas of sustainable agri-food supply chain management in India: natural resources such as land, water and genetic resources and coping with climate change; achieving sustainable production practices and building information-rich agri-food value chains; and making agri markets work.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, Krishna Byre Gowda, will deliver the inaugural address, while Dr. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, will deliver the keynote address. An invited talk on ‘Issues in Assessing Performance of Sustainable Agri-food Supply Chains’ will be delivered by Professor G Raghuram from IIM Ahmedabad.
The workshop will also feature a session on ‘Management of Natural Resources – Land, Water and Coping with Climate Change’ by Professor S. Ayyappan, Ex-Secretary (DARE) and DG (ICAR), Professor KV Raju, ICRISAT, and Dr. Naresh Kumar, IARI. The session on ‘Achieving Sustainable Production Practices’ will have Professor Gopal Naik, IIM Bangalore, Dr. RD Muley, Sri Sri Institute of Agricultural Sciences & Technology Trust, and Sunil G. Awari, General Manager, Namdhari Seeds. The session on ‘Role of Agri Markets in Making Agri-food Supply Chains Sustainable’ will feature Manoj Rajan, Addl Secy Coopn, MD & CEO, ReMS, Vikram Ogale, Director, National Supply Chain & Quality Assurance, McDonald’s India, Ganesh Sundararaman, COO, Staples/Snacks Business, ITC Foods, and Dr. Ashish Dwivedi, University of Hull, United Kingdom.
