I will always treasure my two-week stay in USA, as a part of the PGPPM International Immersion module. The well-structured classroom sessions, split across Syracuse and Washington DC, strengthened my learning while the various site visits helped me appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the USA. I shall always cherish my visit to the historical monuments and the Smithsonian museums. The classroom discussions gave us – students of Public Policy and Management at IIM Bangalore – an overview of policymaking in the USA. Talks on ‘American Federalism, Political Institutions, and…

A trip to the SsangYong Motor factory On a field visit to the SsangYong Motor in South Korea, as part of the International Immersion module, IIMB’s students of the one-year Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) get to understand how business is done
The day started with a sumptuous breakfast and a long ride to Pyeongtaek, where the SsangYong Motor factory is located. We boarded a bus to visit the Samsung Innovation Museum on the third day of our international immersion module in South Korea. We knew what to expect: a display of the Korean giant’s technological prowess. The five-storey complex in Suwon’s Digital City — the nerve centre of Samsung Electronics — starts with the advent of electricity and goes from there. It is only when the museum touches on more modern times that it becomes apparent this is related to Samsung. The first hall is dedicated to the history of…
Understanding the growth story of South Korea What made the small nation turn into a land of corporate giants in a few decades?
Visiting new places is always wonderful as it brings with it the excitement of to exploring the unknown. Our trip to South Korea and KAIST, a public research university, as part of our international immersion module, is one such experience. Given that many Asian countries began their journey towards development around the same time, it is fair to draw comparisons with India. South Korea, in particular, makes for good comparison. The economy of both countries was roughly the same size in 1990 (about $300 billion in GDP) and both…
